Pier III Artwork Reprint
Size

This example of Edwin’s Pier series focuses on one clash between nature and the Pier. A vast pillar, already showing battle scars from the continuing conflict meets another determined wave that breaks spectacularly against it.

Father had many influences, we can see the influence of the Renaissance masters in Pier I but here, there is surely evidence of Hokusai and his ‘Great wave.’ Edwin was a very keen traveller and returned from Japan and China with furniture and artworks from the East.

Here we see the defiance of the Pier in the face of the overwhelming power of nature. Like a British infantry square at Waterloo, the pillar stands, creaking, damaged, but resolute.
